Missouri wanted to adopt slavery. The made Maine to keep Senate balance. They made a deal that the senate must be balance and drew a line between North and South

Texas was large so James Pierce cut of some of Texas. California was admitted at a state, so this and stricter run away laws was a exchange

Uncle Tom's Cabin

Harriet B. Stowe wrote a book about a slave named Uncle Tom. It showed how cruel people were to slaves. It caused outrage within the country

Kansas-Nebraska Act

Steven Douglas wanted to make a railroad from Illinois to California. They wanted to make it through Kansas and Nebraska. They wanted to have them vote to be Pro-Slaves or Anti-Slaves. It lead to Bleeding Kansas, lots of violence between Northers and Southerns

Dred Scott Case

Master died on Freed land. Northerners said that he should be free. Court ruled that he will be sent back as a slave

Raiding by John Brown

A white abolitionist extremist who had a army of 21 men who raided places that believed in slavery

Election of Lincoln

Lincoln was elected as the 16th President in 1860. He was a Republican, who were against southern values.

Confederate States of America

Fort Sumter

South Carolina Secedes from USA. The first battle happened here. Robert Anderson occupied the fort, which started a standoff with the state’s militia forces. When Lincoln announced plans to resupply the fort, General P.G.T. Beauregard bombarded Fort Sumter. After a 34 hours of fighting, Anderson and 86 soldiers surrendered the fort on April 13.

Battle of Galveston

The Union blockaded all of Galveston. Confederates came in and took back the port

Battle of Sabine Pass

Union wanted access to Sabine Pass. When they entered, Confederates bombarded them forcing them to surrender or retreat.
