Maori came to NZ from a Polynesian Island, thousands of years ago.
What is the South American Theory about where Maori came from?
Thor Heyerdahl (Norwegian) theorizes that Maori came from the east coast of South America to Polynesia on a Balsa raft.
What is Thor Heyerdahl's theory based on?
Heyerdahl theory was based on the wind and currents and Kumera originally from South America found on the Polynesian Islands (he bases is on the name rather than the veg). Heyerdahl also found the Polynesians similar in statue to the South Americans.
What is the Asian Theory about where Maori came from?
Polynesian languages belong to the Austronesian language family. The words a similar.

Polynesians were said to have Island hopped from Taiwan (homeland) to the Philippines / Malaysia / Papa New Guinea / Solomon Islands and then to Polynesian Islands (Rarotonga).
