What was the Proclamation of 1763?

It banned colonial settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Britain made this because they didn't want a war with the Native Americans.

What is the Sugar Act of 1764?

It put an import tax on molasses.

What is the Quartering Act of 1764?

Britain kept about 10,000 soldiers in the colonies and the Quartering Act required the colonists to quarter or house the British troops.

When was the Stamp Act made and what is it?

It required all colonists buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products and activities. 1765, repealed 1766

When was the Declaratory Act and what is it?

1766 and it stated that the British Parliament's taxing authority was the same in America as in Britain.

When were the Townshend Acts made and repealed? What are the Townshend Acts?

1768 to 1770. They said Britain would no longer tax products or activities inside the colonies. They would only tax products brought into the colonies.

When was the Boston Massacre and what was it?

It was in 1770 and it was when a bunch of colonists started shouting and throwing things at a small group of soldiers. The soldiers panicked and shot 11 colonists. 5 died.

When were the Tea Acts made and what are they?

The Tea Acts were made in 1773 and it lowered the price of tea by allowing the East India Company to ship tea directly to the colonies. This monopoly hurt the colonial merchants badly.

What are the Intolerable Acts?

1. The trade was cut off in Boston Harbor; all the ports were closed. 2. Britain closed the upper legislature of Massachusetts. 3. They stopped town meetings. 4. They strengthened the Quartering Act of 1764.

When did the first Continental Congress meet and what is it?

1744 in Philidelphia was the Committee of Correspondence meeting to decide what to do after the Intolerable Acts had been passed. The Congress demanded the repeal of the Intolerable Acts. They declared they had a right to tax and govern themselves. The Congress also called for a new boycott on British goods.
