large body of air that has the same characteristics of tempeture and moisture contentas the part of Earths surface of which it formed.
blizzard
winter storm that lasts at least three hours of 12 C or below, poor visibility with winds of atleast 51 KM.
dew point
tempeture at which air is saturated and condensed forms.
fog
a startus cloud that forms when air is cooled to its dew point near the ground.
front
boundry between two air masses withdiffrent tempeture density or moisture; can be warm, cold, occuled and stationary.
humidity
amount of water vapor in the air.
hurricane
large, severe storm that forms over tropical oceans, have winds of at least 120 KM and loses power when it reaches land.
isobars
lines drawn on a weathermap that connect points having equal atmospheric pressure; also indicate the location of high and low pressure areas and can show wind speed.
isotherm
line drawn on a weather map that connects points having equal tempeture.
meteorologist
studies weather and uses information from Doppler radar, and weather satallites, computers and other instruments to make weather maps and provide forecast.
precipitation
water falling from clouds- including rain, snow, sleet and hail- where form is determind by air empeture.
relative humidity
measure of the amount of moisture held in the air compared with the amount it can hold at a given tempeture; can range from 0 percent to 100 percent.
station model
indicates weather conditions at a specific location using a combination of sympots on a map.
tornado
violent, whirling wind storm that crosses land in a narrow path and can result from wind shears inside a thunder head.
weather
state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place, determind by factors including air pressure, amount of moisture in the air, tempeture, wind and precipitation.
