Metamorphic rock
rock formed from other rocks as a result of intense heat, pressure, or chemical processes
Rock Cycle
Series of processes in which rock changes from one type to another and back again
magma
hot molten rock with the earth's surface
Lava
cooled magma at the earth's surface
Intrusive igneous rocks
rocks formed form the cooling of magma beneath the earth's surface
Extrusive igneous rock
rocks formed from molten lava that hardens on the the earth's surface
Porphyry
igneous rock composed of large andd small crystals
Batholiths
largest type of igneous intrusion, covering over 100 square kilometers and reaching a depth of thousands of meters
Stock
igneous intrusion with an area less than 100 square kilometers
Laccolith
flat-bottomed intrusion that pushes overlying rock layers into an arc
intrusion
what the underground rock masses made up of intrusive igneous rocks
felsic
magma which the rocks in the granite family form from
Batholith
the larges of all intrusions
sill
sheet of hardened magma that forms between and parallel to layers of rock

-high in silica
-light coloring
-orthoclase feldspar, quartz, obsidian
basalt family
-form from magmas clalled mafic
-dark coloring
-mineral compoponents are plgioclase feldspar and augite.
