Old antifungal that has been widely used topically and in the oral cavity

Commonly used for Candidiasis

Increases pores or channels therefore increasing permeability

Primarily fungistatic
Nystatin
Toxic antifungal that is considered DOC for most serious infections

Administered IV, binds to a sterol to increase permeability through pores and channels

Chills and fever, nephrotoxicity, neuropathies, and possibly anaphylaxis are adverse reactions

Rifampin, minocycline, and flucytosine enhance the activity of this drug

Primarily fungicidal

Nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity from drug interactions (aminoglycosides, vancomycin, and loop diuretics)
Amphotericin B
2 newer agents that are co-DOC for Aspergillus infections
Voriconazole and caspofungin
Antifungal that is seldom used alone

Used to enhance other antifungals’ effect
Flucytosine
Topical OTC antifungal that is useful against non-serious vaginal candidiasis, diaper rash, and athlete’s foot

Oral/topical agent that is eliminated hepatically

Hepatotoxicity is the major ADR, others include gynecomastia and impotence

broad spectrum w/ a MOA similar to Amphotericin

drug interaction w/ atorvastatin

oral/topical agents that concentrate under the fingernails

widely used for the treatment of onychomycosis
Itraconazole and Terbinafine (DOC for onychomycosis)
oral/parenteral agent that is used to treat cryptococcal meningitis

also approved and widely used as a single oral dose therapy for vaginal candidiasis
Fluconazole
oral agent that concentrates in the skin, hair follicles, and nail beds

fungistatic for dermatophytes

used for severe ringworm and onychomycosis
