Sangiovese

Originated in southern italy , theories said that sangiovese comes from the latin word "sanguis jovis" witch translate to blood of jove, others say it comes from saint Giovanni. Its parents are ciliegiolo X calabrese di montenuovo. offspring of sangiovese are nerello mascalese, frapato, gaglioppo , perrocone. It has thin skin, late ripening, high vigorous, highly adaptable to its surroundings, susceptible to powdery mildew, root , botrytis. It loves low-vigor, calcarious soils. There are many types of sangiovese clones but the most notable are sangiovese grosso and picolo, they both are different in size berries and clusters and make two different wines.

Sangiovese

Visual light ruby with slight garnet rim, moderate minus concetration, ( concentration in color might be different if the wine is a blend ) in brunello dark ruby with garnet rim variation. Aromas tart red fruit, rasberries , plums, sour cherries, cranberries, mulberry, red apple. Florals dried flowers, potpourri herbal roasted savory herbs , tomato leaf , fennel, rosemary, spices/oak clove, coffee oak spices, earth clay, crush rocks, baked earth.

Sangiovese

Structure bone dry to dry , moderate plus body , elevated to high tannins and acid , moderate to high alcohol. In brunello full body elevated alcohol, tannins and acid. Thing to remember is that in chianti they might use no oak or large barriques as in chinati classico and reserva they will use french oak more new depending on producer.
