The term member shall mean any uniformed member of FLFR

Article 3

Deputy Fire Chiefs - shall assume the full duties, responsibilities and authority of the Fire Chief when absent. Assists the fire chief in directing their assigned areas of organization; ensures personnel and equipment properly allocated, inventoried, and effectively utilized, stations are properly maintained and operations personnel are capable and ready.

Fire marshal- assume full responsibility for the administration and technical program of the fire prevention bureau.

Assistant Fire Chief- responsible for the performance of a division through observing emergency and non-emergency operations, managing overtime, assignment pay, and other budgetary operational activities, conferencing with ops personnel and managing the day to day shift and administrative activities.

EMS crew chief - shall have the responsibility for all emergency medical related matters involving the apparatus and personnel assigned to the MRU. A higher ranking officer assumes responsibility over the scene and will rely on the Crew Chief for input and direction.

Chain of command shall always be followed. Telephone answering shall include fort Lauderdale station #, their rank, and last name. No city phone use for private or long distance calls without BC permission.

Department Chaplain- to foster and ensure spiritual, emotional support to personnel and families. Complete confidentiality and trust between chaplain and members.

Lieutenant and assignment- shall have responsibility for all emergency medical related matters involving the apparatus and personnel assigned to a MRU. Shall have functional and authority and direct supervisory responsibilities in EMS/ foreground related matters. Highest ranking paramedic shall accompany the patient to the Ear in the event of a discrepancy.

Article 19

Station grounds - shall be cleaned and maintained daily. No off duty person shall be allowed to sleep within the firehouse without the permission of a chief officer. All stations will be inspected by a battalion chief on a monthly basis. A standardized formal report shall be given to the Assistant chief within the first week of the month. Assistant chiefs shall be perform a station inspection on a quarterly basis. Hours of watch shall be between 0700-2200 hours each shift. Visitors will not be permitted in the station after 2200 hours. Linens maintained by each station and ordered via chain of command. O2 and air cylinders will be at stations 2,13,53. Every Tuesday the status of these shall be reported to logistics by 1000 hours.

Article 20

Apparatus - shall be checked out by 0815 hours. Shall be waxed 3 times a year, April 1st, August 1, and December 1st. An observer that wants to ride has to sign a hold harmless agreement before riding on the vehicle. Forms shall be forwarded and approved by the Emergency services Deputy Chief. No person shall be on the bed or fly section of a ladder truck when being raised or lowered except in an emergency situation. Out of service unit shall first be approved by the battalion chief and then notify the communications center. An operative IQ work order must be performed when replacing or repairing equipment is necessary. Non-meal or personal shopping is permitted without the BC approval. All apparatus shall be locked and secured when not occupied by personnel.

Article 21

Personal protective equipment - it is the responsibility of each member to maintain his or her own gear throughout their entire tenure with the city. All proper ppe shall be worn at all times on calls when appropriate. All gear request have to gain approval from the BC and the AC which will then contact logistics. Lost bunker gear is replaced at the employees request. Damage or lost gear due to employee negligence may be subject to discipline. Damage gear must replaced by logistics and loaner gear is then given out. Stolen gear must come with a police report and chain of command followed.

Article 22

Grooming - hair color must be groomed, clean and in good condition.


Hair must be natural looking. No extreme colors shall be permitted. Hair may not be worn below the bottom of shirt or blouse collar, or must be worn tied up.


Sideburns shall not extend past bottom of earlobe and width of 1-1/2 in.


Mustaches shall not extend past 1/2 inch from corner of the mouth downward or horizontally.


Must be clean shaven at all times.


Fingernails shall be no longer than 1/4 inch from tip of finger. Shall be kept clean and free of decorations. Standard colors of nail polish must be worn.


A wrist watch and one finger ring may be worn on each hand. On neck chain may be worn and remain under the uniform and out of sight. No visible piercings such as tongue rings, gauges, or face piercings shall be permitted.


A single piercing on each earlobe with a stud diameter no larger than 1/4 in.


Face tattoos, neck, scalp and hand tattoos are prohibited with the exception of 1 to be finger tattoo on each hand. Those hired before Jan 1st 2016 are grandfathered to this policy


Intentional mutilation of any body part is prohibited.
