What are visible/ invisible drug users?
Visible drug users are those who went to seek help and are statistically recorded through either police, hospital or lawyers. Invisible drug users are those who do not go to seek help and stay anonymous.
Why do invisible drug users make it difficult to ever fully understand a drug experience?
Most of the invisible drug users don’t seem to have a problem with taking drugs such as heroin or cocaine on a regular basis, they don’t seem to have the addictive personality. Therefore it makes it difficult to understand experiences of drugs because the majority of its users are unknown.
Are people able to stop the intake of drugs whenever they want to?
Yes, a majority of American men consume drugs such as heroin or cocaine on a regular basis. They were able to stop intake as soon as they wanted to. There is actually only a small number that report to be addicted/dependent.
What are long- term consequences?
Having poor relationships, sexual experiences, difficulties to integrate in school or other social environments, family issues, physical problems
Explain alienation and its context to drugs.
Alienation is when teenagers totally isolate themselves and either stay with peers or alone. There is a correlation between drug taking and alienation but no causation.
The consequences of drug use, examples heroin, opiates.
It can be lethal. Many diseases are caught due to sharing of gear, HIV, Hepathitis B and C and other physical problems.
What are the risks of addicts when trying to stay absent?
They might develop a 'replacement' addiction. --> From heroin to alcohol. Many others are trying to commit to something as religion to find their true self.
What are short and long- term treatments
Short- term= detox, long- term= rehabilitation
What does Robson suggest in order to stay abstinent?
