The process in which oxygen and glucose undergo a complex series of chemical reactions that take place inside cells is called respiration.
Breathing refers to a movement of air into and out of the lungs.
How it works with other systems
Your respiratory system brings oxygen into your lungs. Meanwhile, your digestive system absorbs glucose from the food you eat. Then, your circulatory system carries both oxygen and teh glucose to your cells.
Mucus
Moistens the air and keeps the lining from drying out. It also traps particles such as dust.
Cilia
Tiny hairlike extensions that can move together in a sweeping motion. The cilia sewwp the mucus into the throat, wher you swallow it. It is found in the nasal cavity.
Sneezing and coughing
Some particles and bacteria can irritate the lining of your nose or throat, causing you to sneeze. The powerful force of a sneeze shoots the particles out of nose and into the air. The same process occurs at coughing.
