What is meta-analysis?

When a rsearcher looks at the findings from a number of different studies and produced a stat to represent the overall effect.

What is content analysis?

A kind of observational study which doesn't collect data directly from people. The study of recorded communications.

What us adisadvantage if meta analysis?

Research designs may differ in different studies which means studies may not be comparable

What is a limitation of content analysis?

Observer bias, observers may interpret things differently to other people

What is the sign test?

A statistical test to determine thecsignificance of a sample of related items of data.

When do you use the sign test?

Can be used with both repeated measures and matches pairs design

What type of hypothesis is a one-tailed test used for?

A directional hypothesis

What is a directional hypothesis?

A hypothesis which states change is going to happen

When is a two-tailed test used?

When a hypothesis is non-directional

What us nominal data?

Categorical or qualititaive, e.g. preceded type of chocolate. No order. Females are 1 and females are 2. No order or neaning.

What is ordinal?

Have an equal order but the length of intervals between the items may not be equal. E.g. running times in a race. E.g. place someone finshes in a race 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

What us interval?

Numbers have order. (Like ordinal) but there are also equal intervals between adjacent categories.

What is a parametric test?

A test which makes assumptions about the parameters (properties) of the population distribution. A branch of statistics which assumes that data comes from a population that follows a probability distribution based on a fixed set of parameters

A non parametric test makes no assumptions

Y

What parametric data?

A mean and standard deviation

Parametric: if you know the mean and stabdard deviation you can predict the probability of future observation

T

What is a disadvantage of parametric stats?

It isn't always right because it is based on assumptions, this means it is less valid. However when it is right is is more accurate than non-paratemtric tests
