Name: Consciousness
RT: Serotonin affects arousal and sleep, thus it can probably affect consciousness. |
A state of self-awareness where we may be aware of our environment and ourselves.
Ex. Someone admiring the stars or looking at themselves in a mirror. |

RT: Endocrine system, since it handles hormones, which can change in these cycles. |
A cycle affecting our "biological clocks."
Ex. Annual cycles, twenty-eight-day cycles, twenty-four-hour cycles, ninety-minute cycles |

RT: Biological rhythms, since it is one of the cycles. |
How our biological clocks run within one day.
Ex. Body temperature rises in the morning, peaks during the day, dips a little during the early afternoon, and drops again after we get to sleep. |

RT: Top-down processing, since it is the most active stage of sleep, and top-down processing focuses on the finer details of sensation. |
Rapid eye movement sleep, when very vivid dreams can occur. Other body systems are active at this point.
Ex. The famous stage when our eyes begin to move back and forth constantly. |

RT: Hormones, since both are relatively slow and take a while to take affect. |
The slow brain waves when awake.
Ex. When you are laying down with your eyes closed and your body relaxed. |

RT: biological rhythms, since it is a rhythm in itself. |
Temporary and periodic state of unconsciousness.
Ex. We should sleep every day, adults needing six at the least. |

Hallucinations
RT: Sleep, as hallucinations are part of stage one sleep. |
Sensory experiences that are false.
Ex. Seeing something without an external visual stimulus, i.e. falling. |

Delta waves
Rt: alpha waves, since they are both slow brain waves |
Brain waves that are associated with deep sleep.
Ex. Happens during stages three and four sleep. |

Insomnia
RT: Serotonin, possibly, might be a factor here since it may be lacking |
Recurring problems affecting falling or staying a sleep in the case that you can't fall or stay asleep.
Ex. tossing and turning in the middle of the night, for insomniacs |

Narcolepsy
RT: Insomnia, because it seems like just the opposite. |
Periodic sleepiness at the most opportune moments.
Ex. After laughing, shouting, having sex, etc. |
