Positioning Apparatus |

Operations where a strong hydrant is used to supply 2 Pumpers by connecting the pumpers intake-to-intake. |

Tandem Pumping |
Short relay operation in which the pumper taking water from the supply source pumps into the intake of the second pumper. The 2nd pumper then boosts the pressure. • Pumpers are positioned close together, rather than evenly spaced in the supply hose layout. • This maneuver is undertaken when pressures higher than a single engine is capable of supplying are required. • May be necessary to supply high-rise sprinklers or standpipes. • Tandem apparatus may be located up to 300' apart (makes no ******* sense). |

Level I Staging |
• Used on any multi-unit response of two or more companies. • First arriving company proceeds directly to the scene, & the others stand by a block or two away. • Companies normally stage at the last intersection on their route of travel before scene. |

Used on large scale incidents where a larger number of emergency services are responding. |

Staging Area Manager |
Company officer of the first arriving company at staging. Responsible for communicating available resources & resource needs to Op's chief. |

Relay Pumping |
To shuttle water between a source & an emergency scene using mobile water supply apparatus. - Generally used to increase the volume of water available at scene. |
