Old school method of writing, tabloid type writing. Has negative connotation; no respectable newspaper will want to be known as this.

Roles of The Media:

Signaler: They alert people to big stories.


Common Carrier: Gov't leaders speak to people through the media. Media carries their message to the people.


Watchdog Role: The media stands guard; hold politicians feet to the fire; brings accountability; expose corruption.

Pork Barrel Spending

Politicians get to congress they stay there forever. They bring home the bacon to their home district. Getting taxpayers to fund something that is only benefiting their home district.

If you're a member of congress should the people back home matter?

Yes. Because they are your voters; office and staff in your district; constantly running around their district.

How does Govt impact your daily life?

The Bureaucracy. If Govt is going to interact with you it will be through a Govt bureaucracy : DMV, Postal Service, IRS etc.

What is "Whistle-blowing"?

Ratting out your agency for being corrupt, inefficient, something bad going on.

Chief Justice...what is his deal?

When it comes to deciding a case..he and other 8 justices are equal. If president was impeached in House of Reps he would preside over case in senate. Nominated by Pres. confirmed by senate.

Majority Opinion-

If looking at court decision...thing most concerned with is reading how a court ruled and why. Setting a legal precedence and moving forward.

Judicial Activism-

When a judge pits his/her ideal against will of people...overturns democracy etc.

Cainsian Economics-

Cut taxes for poor, want to have Govt spending go up. As Govt spending goes up it will create jobs, get things going.

Supply Side Economics-

Lowering marginal income tax rate, increasing reward for work and investment.

Supply and demand intersect at?

Intersect at "Equilibrium"...in the middle. Will tell you the price.

Production Possibilities Curve-

An opportunity cost. Giving up one to get more of another.

Two main goals:


1) Make sure inflation is nice and tame. Keep under control.


2) High Employment/low unemployment. Everyone who wants to work can.
