Symbolism

Something concrete represents something that is abstract, similar to a metaphor ( BUT NOT THE SAME)


Example: The dove is a symbol of peace


A red rose symbolizes love or romance

The attitude of the writer toward his/her subject. The tone can be formal, informal,serious, comic, sarcastic,sad, or cheerful.

Images that are created by appealing to the senses: sound, touch, smell , taste, and movement. Imagery is often based on figurative language such as simile and metaphor.
