Tissue

A group of cells similar in structure when work together to perform a particular function forms a tissue.

• The term tissue was first coined by Bichat in 1792 .


• Study eof tissue is known as Histology.


Tissues are divided into two parts :-

I. Animal Tissue


II. Plant Tissue

Plant Tissues are further divided into two Parts :-

I. Meristematic Tissue


II. Permanent Tissue

Meristematic Tissue

Those plant tissue which are constantly dividing and help in increasing the length and girth of the plant are known as Meristematic Tissue.

• These tissue are similar in structure and have thin cellulose cell wall.


• They may be spherical, oval, polygonal or rectangular in shape.


• They are living and contains few or no vacuole.

Meristematic Tissues are further divided into three parts:-

I. Apical meristem


II. Lateral meristem


III. Intercalary meristem
