Two types of plant tissue

Xylem = on the inside

Phloem = on the outside

How xylem are adapted to their functions of transporting water:

Tube - how they are connected - cells

1. Long, tube-like joining end to end

2. No end walls > uninterrupted tube which allow water to pass through easily.

3. Cells are dead > no cytoplasm

How xylem are adapted to their functions of transporting water:

Lignin - The pit.

1. Lignin helps to support the xylem and stops them from collapsing inwards.

2. Water and ions move into and out of the xylem vessels through the pit where there's no lignin.
