Can you start the APU during refueling operations?

Yes as long as it is the initial start or restart after a normal shutdown.

Can you start the APU if it fails during the refuel operations?

No, wait until refueling is complete then try to restart the APU. Can cause damage to APU and injuries to personnel.

What type of hydraulic fluid is used on P-8?

Skydrol

What is operated by hydraulic power?

Flight controls, autopilot, nose wheel steering, brakes, landing gear, weapons bay doors, thrust reversers, power transfer unit (PTU)

How do you service the standby reservoir?

Through servicing hyd system B

What are the servicing limits for the hydraulic system?

The reservoir gauges must not pass full mark or be below refill line.

Where is the brake accumulator located?

Starboard side wheel well aft bulkhead.

Can you drop flaps with a 1000 lbs of fuel in each Main Tank?

No because you need 1675 lbs of fuel to use the hydraulic pumps or you can damage the hyd system.

What two types of power does the APU provide?

Pneumatic and electrical

During APU start cycle, the APU EGT indication may fluctuate between what temperatures prior to normal EGT rise?

0 to 1,100 C

What controls and monitors the APU?

ECU, electronic control unit

How many KVAs does the APU supply?

90 KVA

APU oil levels:

Full: 5.7

Add: 4.3

Low: 3.8

Types of engines

CFM56-7B turbofan engines

What is the inlet hazard area?

10 foot radius from inlet, 4 foot aft. (20% increase if winds are over 25 knots)

Mil-prf 23699 mobile jet II

When can you get an accurate oil servicing reading?

5-30 minutes after engine shut down.

How many KVA does each IDC supply?

180 KVA

What is the function or thermal fuse plug?

Thermal fuse plugs in the inner wheel half to prevent tire explosion caused by hot brakes. They melt to release tire pressure at 390 F

What are the brakes on P-8 made out of?

Carbon fiber

What lights are required to operate for flight?

Emergency lights, Wing tip strobes, wing tip red and green, taxi lights, retractable and fixed wing landing lights, anti collision lights.

Emergency procedure for APU fire during refueling:

-Stop fueling procedure

-preform emergency APU shutdown

-get everyone off the aircraft, call fire department and maintenance

Emergency procedure for APU Fire while inside?

-Pull and turn APU Fire switch

-turn off APU

-get everyone off

Emergency procedure for APU Fire outside aircraft?

-Ground control panel (starboard wheel well)

-push horn cutout button

-pull the APU Fire control handle down

-push left to discharge Fire bottle

How would you turn nose wheel past 78 degrees?

Remove the torsion link

How would you turn the nose wheel past 90 degrees?

Remove torsion link and disconnect the taxi light

What is the procedure for tow bar separation?

The driver would pull of at a 45 degree angel, and the director would signal for the brake rider to slowly apply brakes.

Why do we tow the P-8 10 feet in a straight line after a turn?

To release torsion loads on the main mounts

What happens when one horn blows?

All horns blow.

Approximately how many brake applications would you get from 1800 and 3000 psi?

3-1800 6-3000

When would you town a P-8 from the main landing gear?

-Two flat tires on one main gear

-towing on soft ground

-towing up inclines more than 5 degrees
