an AREA in the throat that has the esophagus and trachea. (joining of digestive and respiratory system)
Hard Palate
To allow hard foods to be chewed without them puncturing the mouth. part of the digestive system
Soft Palate
A guidance for food to go down esophagus. behind the hard palate. part of the digestive system
Epiglottis
The flap that leads to the glottis, which then leads to the trachea. part of the respiratory system
Trachea
The windpipe or breathing mechanism. leads to both lungs and branches to them
Esophagus
A tube that takes the food to the stomach. a true organ of digestion. sits behind that larynx. (digestive system).
Larynx
The voice box of the pig. sits on top of the trachea
Thyroid gland
secretes hormones that travel in the blood and act upon other body cells. These hormones regulate the rate at which metabolism occurs in cells. (sits below the trachea) part of the endocrine system
Thymus gland
Where t-lymphocytes mature. helps in immunity. part of the endocrine system.
Glottis
Leads to the trachea. part of respiratory system
Ovaries
produces eggs and sex horomones. part of the reproductive system
Uterine horn
where a pig fetus develops. a pig fetus does not develop in the uterus like humans, instead it develops in the uterine horn which allows more than one fetus to develop (more room for multiple births). part of the reproductive system
Uterus
does not hold the embryo, instead the uterine horns allows the development. part of the reproductive system
Testes
Production of sperm. part of the reproductive system
Epidiymis
Storage of sperm before it reaches the Vas Deferens. epidiymis is where sperm matures. part of the reproductive system
Vas deferens
Conducts and stores sperm. part of the reproductive system
Urethra
expels sperm and urine (in males) and just urine in females. part of the reproductive system
Scrotal sacs
functions to keep sperm cooler. part of the reproductive system
heart
pumps blood throughout the pigs body. part of the cardiovascular system
R/L atrium
part of the cardiovascular system. right atrium carries oxygen poor blood, left atrium carries oxygen rich blood
R/L ventricles
part of the cardiovascular system, right ventricle carries oxygen poor blood, left ventricle carries oxygen rich blood.
Lungs
Allow the pig to breathe. made up of two sections, and collects air from the trachea. oxygen poor blood from the heart comes to the lungs to make it oxygen rich blood, then returns the oxygen rich blood to the pulmonary veins into the heart.
Systemic
Oxygen rich blood. The left side of the heart
Pulmonary
Oxygen poor blood. the right side of the heart before it leaves the pulmonary arteries
Lobes of the lungs. Left and Right
Left lung has two lobes, Right lung has 3 lobes
Diaphragm
aids in breathing. diaphragm expands when you breathe in. diaphragm shrinks when you breathe out. separates the thoracic cavity and the digestive system
Pericardium
a sac that contains the heart. protects the heart
Pleural lining
Membrane that lines the thoracic cavity and lungs
Duodenum
the connection between the stomach and small intestine
Kidneys
located on the far ends of the pig, the kidney filters the blood and creates urine that passes to the urinary bladder
Ureters
thick long tubes that move the urine from the kidney to the bladder
Umbilical arteries
take blood from the iliac arteries to the placenta
Umbilical vein
returns blood from the placenta to the liver
Mesentaries
double layered sheets of peritoneum protect the organs and project from the body wall
Peritoneum
abdominal wall and organs are lines by a membrane called ___________, consisting of epithelium supported by connective tissue.
Adrenal glands
production of horomones
