Vancomycin (Vancocin)
Inhibits cell wall synthesis of the bacteria - bactericidal. Nephrotoxic and ototoxic. Used for severe infections.
Penicillin G and V
Fights gram positive and gram negative organisms by inhibiting cell wall synthesis of bacteria.
Cephalosporins - Cefazolin (Kefzol, Ancef)
Fights ram + and Gram - organisms weakens cell wall which causes cell to lyse. Bacteriocidal.
Amphotericin B (Fungizone)
Used for serious systemic fungal infections. Causes leakage of intracellular fluid (death of bacterial cell) Very potent.
Fluconazole (Diflucan)
