Hippocrates

Greek philosopher and physician (460-377 b.c.e.) proposed that physical and psychological disorders have natural causes. Four imbalances among four humors: black bile, blood, phlegm, and yellow bile.

Benjamin rush

Father of American psychiatry. Used bloodletting and used tranquilizer chair for patients with mania. (1748-1813) introduced moral therapy at Philadelphia Pennsylvania hospital. Expected staff to be friends to patients.
