Carcinoma of the cervix (cervical cancer)

Malignant cells within the cervix

Usually caused by HPV. Treatment is radical (complete) hysterectomy

Inflammation of the cervix

Commonly caused by Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. Treatment is cryocauterization (destroying tissue by freezing)

Implantation if the placenta over the cervical opening or in the lower region of the uterus

Preeclampsia

Abnormal condition associated with pregnancy, marked by high blood pressure, proteinuria, edema, and headache

Acute lung disease commonly seen in the premature newborn

Accumulation of fluid in the spaces of the brain

Occurs because of a problem in the circulation of fluid within the brain and spinal cord, resulting in fluid accumulation

Meconium aspiration syndrome

Abnormal inhalation of meconium (first stool) produced by a fetus or newborn

Pyloric stenosis

Narrowing of the opening of the stomach to the duodenum
