Homeostasis
Most of the time, cells are in homeostasis, or a "steady state" in which they are able to withstand normal physiologic demands.
Adaptation, What are the four forms?
When normal physiologic demands are exceeded, the cells may undergo adaptation, in the form of hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy or metaplasia.
Reversible Cell Injury
When normal physiologic demands are exceeded, the cells may undergo reversible cell injury, if the stress or damage is mild or transitory
Cell Death
When normal physiologic demands are exceeded, the cells may undergo cell death if the damage is sustained or severe.
