what is particle arrangement in a liquid?

- close together

what is the particle arrangement in a gas?

- far apart

- random arrangement

- move quickly

- move in all directions

what is sublimation?

the change in state from a solid to a gas

pressure and temperature of a gas..

Molecules in a gas are further apart and only weakly attracted to one another. Heat causes the molecules to move faster and further increasing the volume of the gas. However if the gas in contained so that it has a fixed volume the pressure increases.

explain brownian motion

particles in both liquids and gases move randomly, this is called brownian motion. they do this because they are bombarded by other moving particles in the substance. Larger particles can be moved by lighter, fast moving molecules.

(need to say "random molecular bombardment")

describe and explain diffusion

diffusion is the random movement of particles in a solution or in gases leading to complete mixing of the particles. If a particle has a greater molecular mass it will move more slowly and therefore the diffusion will be slower.
