Blumberg sign
Rebound tenderness at point of pressure
Markle sign
Stand on toes and drop to heels. Sudden jar causes pain if peritonitis is present.
Murphy's Sign
Palpate under liver and instruct pt to take deep breath. Sudden pain upon inspiration in sign of cholecysitis or liver inflammation.
McBurney's Sign
Pain between umbilicus and ASIS. Positive refers to appendicitis.
Rovsing Sign
Rebound tenderness but not at point of pressure.
Osler's Nodes
Bacterial endocarditis. small infarcts in fingers due to infectious emboli from an infected left heart valve (most commonly the mitral valve).
Virchow's node
Supraclavicular lymph node on left. Sign of metastatic GI cancer.
Iliopsoas Sign
Pt. lays on left side and flexes and extends right leg. Pain during movement is sign of peritonitis and appendicitis.
Obturator Sign
Patient lies in supine position and flexes hip and knee joint. Pain or tenderness refers to peritonitis or appendicitis.
