Pavlik harness




Treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip if hip remains unstable at around 6 weeks old




Complications:


- excess abduction may lead to avascular necrosis of the femoral head

Torn frenulum




May be sign of non-accidental injury from forcing bottle/dummy in mouth

Club foot (talipes equinovarus)




1. Inversion




2. Adduction of forefoot relative to hindfoot (which is in varus)




3. Plantarflexion (equinus) deformity


Diphtheritic membrane




Necrotic mucosal cells appear as grey coloured coating around tonsils, caused by Corynebacterium diphteriae toxin




Other features:


- bulky cervical lymphadenopathy


- neuritis (e.g. cranial nerves)


- heart block

Eczema herpeticum




A severe primary infection by herpes 1 0r 2




More common in children with eczema




Potentially life threatening: admit for IV aciclovir
