Maintenance fluids for paeds?
First 10kg: 100ml/kg/day
11-20kg: 1000ml + 50ml/kg/day
>20kg: 1500ml + 20ml/kg/day
Clinical signs of shock (hypovolaemia?)
- hypotension
-poor peripheral perfusion
- cool, pale extremities
- tachycardia w low volume pulses
- high blood lactate/large base deficit
-> give 20ml/kg of saline
Rehydration protocol?
No sx dehydration: <5% dehydrated (use maintenance)
Some signs = 7% dehydration
Sx of severe dehydration = 10%
