Dr.Hilarion T. Feliciano & Doña Maria mercado founded the kolambugan academy, Lanao Del Norte.

June 1929/ 1st private high school in this country

2yrs later, the school was transferred to Misamis (Now ozamiz city)

The school was renamed Misamis Institute

school reopened after the 2nd world war, government obtained elementary and secondary courses

1946

School was renamed as MISAMIS COLLEGES

1955

Dr. Hilarion T. Feliciano acquired mindanao academy in oroquieta city and administered the school as a extension of Misamis colleges. In 1982, the school was renamed MISAMIS UNIVERSITY, OROQUIETA UNIT.

1967

BS Nursing and midwifery was opened.

1975

Institution was granted the university status.


Dr.Jaime M. Feliciano was installed the first president of Misamis university.

1977

BS mechanical,Electrical engrng and nursing gained government recognition.

1979

Dr. Nestor Feliciano took the helm of the university and was installed the 2nd president of the university.

March 30, 1984

Instructional Media center (IMC) was constructed.

1989

Offered; Master of Arts in Nursing, BS Marine transportation, BS Marine engineering, BS computer engineering, BS computer science.

SY; 1993-1994

Master in nursing was offered.


BS Physical therapy and BS Medical Technology were granted government recognition.

1995

Complement the paramedical courses offered by the institution.The University built MISAMIS UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER (MUMC).

1995

Maritime Education was certified by Net Norske Veritas(DNV) having complied the international standard for maritime education.

1999

MU was granted Deregulated status by CHED

2003

The university certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), The Netherlands as having conformed to the Quality management system set forth in ISO 9001:2000 standard in full scope.

2005

Dr. Karen Belina Feliciano De Leon became the 3rd president of Misamis university.

2006

The university was certified to ISO 9001:2008 standard.


MUMC was also awarded by Philhealth as the Center of Quality in health care services.


MU manor, a teaching hotel was opened for the BSHM students and to the public.

2010

Provision of new officers and classroom; laboratories were upgraded

2011

Awarded as centers for development for teacher education, Information technology and Criminology.

2015

CHED granted the university a DEREGULATED status.
