Delimitations/ Limitations
This proposal will not validate whether or not accreditation promotes quality education, greater accountability, and student performance. It will not recommend changes to the ACCJC’ standards or assess its capability to accredit a college. The study is limited to the nine LACCD colleges and the primary source of information includes newsletters and memorandums published by the ACCJC.

Literature Review
This proposal will mirror the research design and conducted by Elizabeth Vitullo and Jason Johnson in “University presidential rhetoric and the 2008-2009 economic crisis”. President Obama’s speech is t extually rich with rhetorical devices and engaging writing, but perhaps of even more significance is the context in which he gave this speech. Mr. Obama was the keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and at the time campaigning to become a US Senator. Perhaps the most important aspect of this setting is that this highly politicized speech was given to an audience of, generally, like- minded people. Mr. Obama’s more recent speeches are often written so as to not wholly offend the opposing party, or sometimes even his own, but in this case he was unabashedly liberal and advocating the election of Senator John Kerry as President. Additionally, Mr. Obama references many topics that were more commonly debated in 2004 than in 2013, but also some that remain relevant.…

“Never in my life would I have expected community colleges to be called potential saviors of the economy,” says George Boggs. There have been misconceptions on the validity of Community Colleges and why it might be an option to some people. Parents, institutions, and the general public see this life option as second best but what most do not realize is that Community Colleges serve as more than a “second tier” institution, but as a metaphorical fallback net. The assumption is that most students leave high school and their parents are able and willing to continue investing in their education but most do not take in consideration of those who fall short of these financial requirements, those who are not ready to take the leap to the next step…

Many have asked, is there really a difference between community college and a four year university. The answer is, yes, of course because of the smaller classes, academics, and advantages one might receive from a community college experience. The assessor will need to decide the methods or activities to be used for assessment such as observations, performance evidence, discussion or witness/learner statement. How knowledge and understanding is going to be assessed also needs careful thought and could include tests, multiple choice questions, written assignment/task, a reflective journal, verbal questioning or naturally occurring evidence, all of which need to be fit for purpose and relate to the learner’s specific needs. Further considerations for assessment planning are to determine who will be assessing the learning/learner and how progress will be monitored and reviewed following feedback. 3.2 Evaluate the benefits of using a holistic approach to…

When comparing the commencement speech given by Steve Jobs at Stanford University in 2005 to the commencement speech given by Barak Obama at Wesleyan University in 2008, one can argue that Steve Jobs’ address has a stronger use of the rhetorical situation and the rhetorical appeals. Jobs’ ability to combine ethos, pathos and purpose proves his credibility, builds a relationship with the audience, and helps students believe in their intuitions. In his 2005 commencement address to Stanford University, Steve Jobs incorporates ethos to prove his credibility to his audience. He begins by admitting that “[he] never graduated from college” (1).…
