Describe the APGAR score

Performed at 1 and 5 min. Score <7 = need help


A - Activity 0 = none, 1 = arms and legs flexed, 2 = active limb Demovement


P - Pulse 0 = absent, 1 = <100bpm, 2 = >100bpm


G - Grimace 0 = none, 1 = grimace or facial movement, 2 = pulling away or coughing/sneezing


A - Appearance 0 = cyanosed, 1 = pink centrally, 2 = pink


R - Respiration 0 = apnoea, 1 slow/irregular = , 2 = good/crying

Definition of Primary postpartum haemorrhage

>500mL NVD or >1000mL LCS Or Clinically excessive - Pt symptomatic (dizzy/lightheaded/syncope) Or Results in maternal hypovolaemia (hypotension, tachycardia, oligouria)


Severe PPH = >1000mL


Critical PPH = >2500mL
