Ambularm
A safety device that alerts health care personnel that a patient is attempting to get up. Provides an alternative to restraints.
carbon monoxide
A colorless, odorless, poisonous gas produced by the combustion of carbon or organic fuels.
heat exhaustion
An abnormal condition characterized by weakness, vertigo, nausea, muscle cramps, and loss of consciousness. This is caused by a depletion of body fluid and electrolytes resulting from exposure to intense heat of the inability to acclimatize to heat.
hypothermia
An abnormal lowering of body temperature below 35°C, or 95°F, usually caused by prolonged exposure to cold.
immunization
The process by which resistance to an infectious disease is produced or augmented. Immunity is acquired after the oral administration or injection of an antigen, which causes production of an antibody within the body.
pathogen
A microorganism capable of producing disease.
restraint
A device to aid in the immobilization of a patient or patient’s extremity.
