1. Clouding of consciousness with reduced ability to focus, sustain, or shift attention
2. A cognitive change (e.g., memory deficit, disorientation, language disturbance) or perceptual disturbance that is not better accounted for by a preexisting, established, or evolving dementia 3. Development over short period of time (hours to days), with a tendency to fluctuate during the course of the day 4. Evidence from the history, physical examination, or laboratory studies that the disturbance is caused by a general medical condition, medication or other substance exposure, substance withdrawal, or multiple etiologic disorders |
