Tuberculous meningitis

In the acute exudative stage there is exudate containing polymorphonuclear leukocytes especially prominent around blood vessels Perivascular necrosis and netweok of fibrin Dense cellular infiltration (lymphocytes plasma cells macrophages) In florid cases granulomas can form, with caseous necrosis and Langhans’ giant cells Caseation can also affect arteries, Casuing partial or compelte necrosis of the vessel walls

Tuberculous meningitis

Giant cell

Abscess of the brain

There is a granulation tissue with neovascularization around the necrosis

Fibroblasts produces a collagenous capsule

Astrocytes multiply around the abscess

Edema is prone….

Congested vessel

Abscess of the brain

Foci of neutrophils (purulent excudate ,pus)

Glioblastoma multiforme

GBM shows high cellularity, anaplasia, mitosis, microvascular proliferation

Densely cellular arrays of tumor cells are often arranged in palisades around serpinginous necrotic areas

Glioblastoma multiforme

Pseudopalisading of malignant nuclei

Serpentine ares of necrosis

Glioblastoma multiforme

medulloblastoma

Highly cellular tumor composed of small blue cells Small, undifferentiated oval or round cells

Rosettes are groups of tumor cells arranged in a circle around a fibrillary center

medulloblastoma

rosettes

meningioma

Whorled (onion skin) pattern of spindle shaped cells in association with psammoma bodies (calcified nodules)

Scattered by collagenous fibrous tissue

meningioma

psammoma body

Whorled (onion skin arrangements) pattern of spindle shaped meningothelial cells

meningioma

schwannoma

Antoni A: alongated cells with cytoplasmic processes, arranged in fascicles in areas of moderate to high cellularity

Fascicles of spindle cells are occasionally parallel

Picketed and regimented patterns of cells at the ends of fibrillar bundle are Verocay body

schwannoma

Paladin nuclei

Verocay body
