Neurolemma

Delicate outer membrane of the myelin sheath of a myelinated nerve cell

Myelin

Sensory Neurons

Neurons sending signals to the brain from an effector carrying sensory information.

Motor Neurons

Neurons that flow out of the brain sending signals to effectors

Arachnoid

Porous membrane that lies in the middle of the pia and dura mater

Pia Mater

Deep, lies against brain

Dura Mater

Outer layer, "tough mother" that is hardy and coats or is the shell of the brain

Efferent nerve

Nerve impulses going out of the brain, motor Neurons

Afferent Nerve

Nerve impulses going to the brain, sensory Neurons

Interneuron

Neuron that forms connections with other Neurons and is not sensory nor motor, in spinal cord

Axon terminal

End of a neuron where they give the neurotransmitters to the dendrites of another neuron through the synapse

Hyperpolarization

Over correcting for depolarization. In the process of repolarization and bringing back to polar resting potential it goes back to the original voltage.

Synaptic cleft

Gap between the axon terminal or presynaptic neuron and the dendrites of another neuron or the postsynaptic neuron
