Tell me about yourself…

To start off, I am Kiyara Jackson and I have been in the Air National Guard for 9 years assigned with the 108th Forces support squadron. There I am the NCOIC of customer service, handling the phone, customers questions, do DEERS updates and creating IDs for all military members and their dependents, plus dod civilians, retirees, and contractors. I always handle problems such as re-enlistments and extensions, retirements, bother enlisted and officers promotion packages, Blended retirement system, and much more. On the civilian side I am a Human Resource specialist at JFHQ. I have been doing that for 6 years now. I create and handle different reports for all sections and both army and air units. Fix discrepancies and in process new hires. Lastly in my personal life I have beautiful but destructive 2 year old who keeps me busy, I love spending time and traveling with him as well with my family and friends. I always like to pick you on different hobbies.

What would you say is the largest distinguishing factor between profession of arms and other professions?

Profession of arms is something as a airmen we belong to. We’re selfless, accountable for meeting the ethical, and performance standards. We qualify as professionals through intensive training, education, and practical experience. As well we are committed to our core values. But what makes us more different from other professions is our willingness to serve our country and sacrifice our lives for our nation.

Explain the difference between a mentor and a coach. Describe at least one situation that is best situated for each style.

The difference between a mentor and a coach is a mentor provides their knowledge, skills, and experience to help develop a person’s growth long term. As for a coach, they provide guidance for a goal to help you reach it.

So in a situation for mentoring I would find someone I can go to long term for advice, help with any troubles, or decisions I have to hear if they have experienced it or having knowledge that can help.

Coaching I would you use someone short term to help me focus and pass a test or the board or condition me to help with fitness. Like for a example I was supposed to go to the board back in September but I just wasn’t feeling it, I hate studying and interviews but my peers took the initiative to take the time to get with me to study with me to accomplish this one goal.

Airmen project the military image and make an impression on those around them in large part on how they wear their uniforms, the Air Force emphasize a need, clean and professional image, if you see the opposite sex, and in your chain of command, and they appear to be out of regs, whether it be hair, nails, facial hair, ribbons, or uniforms. How would you address the situation?

I would Definitely make sure I know the update version of dress and appearance which is 36–2903 and to for sure 100% correct on what I am going to correct the person about. I will pull the members aside so they wouldn’t feel embarrassed or offended, and let them know what exactly is wrong, and why and explain to them how it is out of regulations and if they could correct it at their earliest convenience because I know some things can be corrected right away, but if so, I will give solution so if the members nails would ask if they could go to the store and buy the appropriate color and paint over it. Or if it’s a male who forgot to shave and is not on a shaving waiver suggest that maybe he should buy a razor and do a quick clean up in the bathroom.

Do you think that the Air Force’s core values “excellent in all we do” , demands perfection? How would you define the core value? How do you implement these core value in your organization?

No, I do not believe it’s a demand for Perfection, but to strive to be the best that you can be and to perfect your craft. This core value to me is a good one to live by, because with anything I touch, I do want to make sure it is a good product. I know I am human and human make mistakes but I want to try and make the effort to prevent them as much as possible. Your product is a reflection of you and I want to give out the best with little to no mistakes and that’s how I see the core value of “excellence in all we do”. To just give your best.

There are five elements to the Air Force dress and appearance standards. What are the five elements which one is subjective?

The five elements of the Air Force dress and appearance standards are neatness, cleanliness, safety, uniformity, and Military image. All elements are necessary but military image is subjective Military image is subjective because everyone’s appearance in judgment is different, but if you follow the other four elements of dress and appearance then you will uphold a acceptable Military image.

What reporting options do sexual assault victims have and what are the differences?

A member have two options when reporting a sexual assault, which are unrestricted and restricted the difference is that unrestricted allows an official investigation and members’ command is notified. As for restricted reporting, there will be no investigation, it is confidential and only specific individuals will need to know such as the SARC and or health providers.

Your unit has a new commander who is intent, and objective is very different from the previous commander. As a result, the unit ops temp has increased significantly and morale seems to be suffering. Some members are coming to you saying that they miss the old commander, and that the new one is unreasonable you notice that teammates are cutting corners so that they can leave on time as a TSgt how would you apply the Air Force core value to address this situation?

I would use integrity and be honest with my peers and tell them the importance of us channeling our issues up to our chain of command and to give feedback. So everyone can be aware of what is going on. As well I would also make suggestions to the supervisor, chief, first shirt, and commander to help bring the morale up to do different group activities during drill, PT together, and morale events to bring our unit together.
