Respiration

The process through which plants make their own food.

Aerobic

Respiration which requires molecular oxygen

Anaerobic

Respiration that can occur in the absence of 02

Glycolysis

Oxidizes glucose or fructose.

Krebs cycle

Finishes the process of converting all of the carbon originally and the starting sugar to seo to. Most of the energy released during the crabs cycle is associated with electrons that are held by NADH molecules.

Electron Transport Chain

A series of carriers in the inner membrane past the electrons from NADH to 02 which is then reduced to H20.

Oxidative phosphorylation

Metabolic pathway in which cells use enzymes to oxidize nutrients, thereby releasing energy which is used to re form ATP. This takes place in the mitochondria.

Fermentation

Set of reactions that lets NADH unloaded electrons so glycosis can continue.

Carbohydrate

A group of organic compounds containing hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. Are the main Nutrients in plants.

Glucose

Simple monosaccharide sugar that serves as the main source of energy and as an important metabolic substrait for most living things

Pyruvic Acid

Yellowish organic acid that occurs as an intermediate in many metabolic processes, especially glycolysis.

FAD/FADH2

A redox cofactor that is created during the Krebs cycle and utilized during the last part of respiration. The electron transport chain.

Intermediates

A substance forms during a middle step of a chemical reaction between reactants and the desired products.

Thermogenic

Tending to produce heat. The weird penis tree. And that ugly orchid in the snow.
