Gravida

Refers to a woman who is or has been pregnant regardless of the duration of the pregnancy.

Primigravida

A woman who is pregnant for the first time.

Multigravida

A woman who has been pregnant more than once.

Para

Refers to the number of pregnancies that have ended at 20 weeks or more regardless of whether the infant was born alive or stillborn

Nullipara

A woman who has never completed a pregnancy Beyond 20 weeks of gestation because she has never been pregnant or has had a spontaneous or elective abortion.

Primipara

A woman who has delivered one pregnancy at 20 or more weeks of gestation.

Multi Para

A woman who has delivered two or more pregnancies at 20 or more weeks of gestation.

GTPAL

An acronym that allows a more complete description of pregnancy outcomes then gravida and para alone.

Subtract 3 months from first day of last normal Metro. Add 7 days and correct the year if appropriate.. = EDD

Compressibility of the lower uterus this reflects softening of the isthmus of the cervix.

Ballottement

When the cervix is tapped the fetus flows upward in the amniotic fluid. A rebound is felt by The Examiner when the fetus falls back.
