Ferdinand LaSalle
german jewish jurist and socialist political activist, proposed communist principles that were rejected by Marx and Engels.
Labor Theory of value
distinguish among several different types of value of commodity may have. Marx said: Labor is not the source of all wealth. Nature is just as much a source of use values (and it is surely of such that material wealth consists!) as labor which is itself only the manifestation of a force of nature, human labor power, the value of commodity is laborvalue acerage amount of socially necessary labor for its production.
use-value
how much utility use consumption value
exchange vale
commodity receives on market what price you get.
fair distribution
workers should have an equal right to be compensated in direct proportion to amount of the labor they continue
Marxs moral objection to fair distribution
although principle formally gives all equal right in substance it is equal, this is actually unfair because we would be rewarding producto fo change not fair only rewarding the strong.
marx's political objection
even if fair distribution is accepted it is naive to place so much emphasis on distribution since in reality the distribution of means of consumption is but result of the distribution of the factors of productions.
communist principle
from each according to abilities to each according to needs. production part and distribution part. proposed by marx
problems with communist principle
same as lassalle because workers own they decide how much to produce and distribute. and incentive problem: if people aren't rewarded for output why should they work?
use theory
how humch you need item value of someone who would use it.
exchange theory of value
worth as much as what you can get in exchange for it.
