Common behaviours are concern for the task and concern for the people accomplishing the task. Effective leaders have concern for both.

What are the contingency theories of leadership?

Contingency theories:


  • Fiedler's model
  • Hersey-Blanchard model
  • House's path-goal theory
  • Vroom-Jago leader-participation model

Contingency leadership theories point out that no one leadership style always works best. The best style is to choose one that best suits the unique demands of each situation.

Leadership that maintains high ethical standards of behaviour and meet the criteria of what is 'good' and 'correct'.
