Describe What would happen to the particles of element C when it is cooled from 80°C to -10°C |
•Particles lose kinetic energy •The movement slows down • They came closer to one another until arranged in an orderly manner. |
|
The kinetic theory explains the properties of solids, liquids and gases in terms of the movement of particles. Liquids and gases both take up the shape of the container but a gas always fills the container. Explain this, using the ideas of the kinetic particle theory. |
According to kinetic particle Theory, the tiny particles in a gas are spread far apart because the forces of attractions between them are very weak. These particles have a lot of space between them. Thus it fills the container whereas in a liquid, the particles are still packed closely together but in a disorderly manner . They can move freely by sliding over another. |
|
Which gas carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide would diffuse faster?Explain your choice. |
Carbon dioxide diffuses faster than sulfur dioxide, because the molecular weight of carbon dioxide is lesser than Sulfur dioxide. |
|
Two pieces of cotton wool, soaked and seperately in aqueous solutions of ammonia and hydrogen chloride are placed ends of a tube.Nearest to which positions A,B or C is the white solid formed |
C.Because the relative molecular mass of ammonia is smaller than the MR of HCL . Hence Ammonia particles are lighter and move faster than HCL gas particles |
|
The solid state. Why does a solid have a fixed shape and fixed volume. |
The particles of a solid are held together by very strong forces of attractio. They cannot move Freely . They only have enough kinetic energy to vibrate and rotate about their fixed position. For this reason,a solid has a fixed volume . A solid cannot be compressed since its particles are already very close to one another. |
