Define QA.
The term quality assurance describes a program that is designed to control and maintain the standard of quality set for that program. For radiation oncology, a quality assurance program is essentially a set of policies and procedures to maintain the quality of patient care.
Who can perform QA on equipment and what are the qualifications?
Physicist, dosimetrist, and therapist.
How accurate should equipment generally be for treatment of cancer?
"+- 5%"
What is autoradiography?
An autoradiograph of a brachytherapy source reveals distribution of activity as well as activity length. The symmetry of the source loading within the capsule may be ascertained by taking a simulator radiograph of the source but leaving it on the film for an appropriate length of time to obtain an autoradiograph.
How do you check source position in remote afterloaders?
Source position and accuracy can be checked by taking radiographs of dummy sources in the applicators with their positions marked on a ready pack film and combining with autoradiographs of the radioactive sources in the same applicators. The position of the dummy sources and radioactive sources should correspond within +-1%.
What does it mean to be commissioned?
A linear accelerator cannot be used for patient treatments until it has been calibrated and all the beam data and necessary parameters for treatment planning have been obtained.
What QA should be performed on your treatment planning system?
The hardware and software should be tested.

The hardware tests include checking the accuracy and linearity of input digitizers, output plotters, and printers.

The software tests pertain to checking the accuracy of dose distributions for a selected set of treatment conditions against measured distributions or manual calculations.
What do you check if your TX planning system is running slow?
