To try to get more money and regain some respecr, Saddam invaded a small, oil rich country called kuwait

Ha wanted to push Iraq out of Kuwait so sent in an army of American and British troops. Saddam was defeated quickly however nothing was put into place to remove Saddam from power

Iraq owed money to these countries and so they didn't want to become an enemy of iraq. They did not vote and said they disagreed with the war and the multinational force

Was the war legal?

UN resolutions said they 'may' use force of iraq didn't follow resolution orders.


Many countries therefore decided another resolution would need to be found first. However Tony Blair and George bush decided to invade anyway

Causes of the invasion of iraq

-failed to remove Saddam after the gulf war


-George W Bush was in power and wanted to make an impact unlike his dad


-strong leaders also wanted him gone from power


-Media: Rupert Murdoch (owner of a worldwide newspaper) and fox TV both supported the invasion making the public back it as well


-UK/Tony Blair: in their best interests to stay friends with America


-other efforts have failed to remove Saddam from power


-9/11: thought Saddam was working with al-quada


-Saddam continued to go against UN resolutions
