-basic processing system that serves the operational level in an organization
-ex. payroll system or order entry system

-models information to support managers and business professionals during the decision making process
-sensitivity analysis, what-if analysis, and goal-seeking analysis

-a specialized DSS that supports senior level executives within the organization.

-attempts to understand and measure the current process and make performance improvements accordingly
Business Process Re-engineering
-the analysis and redesign of work-flow within the between enterprises
-differs from business process improvement in that it's more of a clean slate process
Business Process Management
-integrates all of an organizations business process to make individual processes more efficient
