What do B cells do?
B cells:
Produce antibodies (IgA, IgM, IgG,IgE, IgD)

Differentiate into one of 2 cell types:
1) plasma cells (which also produce antibodies) under the influence of T lymphocytes
2)Memory cells
T lymphocytes do....
3 jobs:
1. Proliferation and maturation of B Cells which produce antibodies
2. Rejection of foreign tissue based on their HLA (a tissue antigen)
3. Cancer surveilance

How do they do all this? Well they recognise HLA (which is a type of antigen present on cell surface) subtypes and express CD (2 main types are CD4 + CD8)
Parts of the immunoglobulin?
Fab - is the part which recognises the antigen

Fc - portion of the Ig that binds to the cell when the Fab is occupied by an antigen

(What can Fc bind to and activate? Binds to Fc receptors present on: macrophages, natural killer cells, neutrophils and mast cells)

Heavy chain (determine the subtype e.g. IgG different from IgM based on differences in heavy chain)
Bacterial infection response?
Neutrophilia (phagocytose + then die forming pus)

Lymphocytes (B-cells make antibodies + involved in immune memory, T cells regulate B-Cell activity)
Immune response in Allergy?
Eosinophils raised in allergy (esp asthma)

IgE involved in allergy
What is elevated in Crohns, UC + connective tiss disease?
Monocytes, Neutrophils, Basophils
