What is opsonization?

The process of an antibody "tagging" (binding) to a pathogen. The pathogen binds to the Fab


region of the antibody, where the phagocyte will bind to the Fc region on the antibody where it is signalled to engulf the pathogen.

How do antibodies activate complement?

By having an antigen portion of a pathogen bound to its Fab region, the Fc region is open to bind to C1, which activates a cascade of proteins known as complements.
