What is the purpose of the immune system?
To fight disease
What is the structure of the immune system?
Lymph vessels, lymph nodes, bone marrow and thymus
What is the body's first line of defense? What are these barriers?
Natural Barriers. Skin, breathing passages, stomach and mouth
What does each barrier do?
Skin= Sweat with enzymes
Breathing Passages= mucus
Stomach= acid
Mouth= saliva

Inflammatory response
What happens in the inflammatory response?
Inflammation and fever.
What is inflammation?
It is where the wbc go to the wound.
What is the body's 3rd line of defense?
Immune Response
What happens in the immune response?
wbc attack, others make anitbodies. T cells find and attack pathogens. Antibodies mark for destruction of pathogen.
What is active and passive immunity?
active= long term made by urself through vaccine
passive= short term. given by mom or serums
