two mamillary bodies – corpus mamillare

about 0,5 cm in diameter,

placed side by side between tuber cinereum and substantia perforata posterior. It is subcortical center of smell

neurohypophysis – neurohypophysis;

it is a part of the pituitary gland – glandula pituitaria (hypophysis) – the gland of inner secretion (0,5 gr.). The gland lies in fossa hypophysisalis (sella turcica) and is covered by diaphragma sellae. It is connected to the base of the brain with a hollow conical process – infundibulum;

optic chiasma –

chiasma opticum – is a flattened band of fibres of the IInd cranial nerve – n. opticus. It lies in front of the anterior wall of the 3rd ventricle. Chiasma opticum contains crossed medial and uncrossed lateral fibres of the optic nerve;

optic tract – tractus opticus –

contains fibres of the optic nerve from both eyes; it continues backward and laterally from chiasma opticum, runs along substantia perforata anterior, curves around pedunculi cerebri and terminates at the subcortical visual centers (pulvinar, corpus geniculatum laterale, colliculus superior);

tuber cinereum

is a hollow eminence of the grey mater between corpora mamillaria and chiasma opticum in front of it. It contains tuberal nuclei, that are the source of histamine in the brain and help to regulate the circadian cycle.
