What is the Barthel Index?
the barthel index is 10 items that measure a persons daily functioning, specifically the ADLS and mobility. it can be used to determine a baseline level of functioning and can be used to monitor improvement in ADLs over time. Maximum independance is a score of 100.
What is the Katz Index?
it measures funcitonal status as a measurement of the clients ability to perform ADLs independantly. The index ranks adequacy of performance in six categories: bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, continence, and feeding. Clients are scored yesno for each function.
6 = full function
4 = moderate impairment
What are examples of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLS)?
balancing ones checkbook, using the phone, cooking, laundry, shopping, medication filling and taking
What are examples of Advanced Activities of Dialy Living (AADLS)?
part time job, volunteering, caring for grandchildren
