Name the layers of the earth |
Inner core, outer core, mantle, crust |
What is the inner core made up of? |
Iron and nickel that turn into a solid from all the pressure. |
What makes up the outer core? |
It is like a ball of very hot liquid metals of iron and nickel. |
What is the mantle made up of? |
It is made of magnesium and iron, the mantle is divided into three parts: the upper (ridged), middle (plastic), and lower (semi-solid). |
What is the asthenosphere? |
The asthenosphere has convection currents on which the plates move. |
What is the lithosphere? |
It consists of the crust and upper mantle. It is a solid. |
What is the crust made up of? |
The earth's crust is thin compared to the other layers. It is solid and made up of mostly silicon and oxygen. It is broken into many pieces called plates. |
What is oceanic crust made up of? |
It is made up of mostly basalt. |
What is continental crust made up of? |
It is made up mostly of granite. |
