Constructive Waves

*Have a smaller crest and larger wavelenght.

*Swash is more powerful than backwash.

*Crash at gentle angle.

Destructive Waves

*Have a higher crest and a shorter wavelength.

*Swash is less powerful than backwash.

Name of bottom part of mudflow?

Lobe

Rockfall?

As a result of freeze-thaw weathering, when rock falls off cliff to bottom.

Landslide?

Rocks slide off the hillside and cause cracks. When water gets in these cracks, it causes the water to become a lubricant and so allows the rock to be able to slip down the hill side.

Mudflow?

When there is heavy rain and the water saturates the ground and so the water flows down the hill in a stream and forms a "lobe" at the bottom.

Rotational Slip?

When mud and weak rock get saturated with water and break at an angle. The material goes down the hill and forms a pile at the bottom called a foot.

What is the bottom of a rotational slip called?

The foot

Longshore Drift

This is when sediment is moved across abeach. This happens when the swash from the waves hit the beach at an angle. This causes material to be washed up at the beach. The backwash then returns ata 90 degree angle. The process continues and causes the material to travelalong the beach.

How is a spit formed?

Formed due to longshore drift and is formed in the direction of the prevailing wind. Constructive waves help to form them and they grow into the sea. The end is always curved as a result of the opposing waves. Spits help to protect the bay from erosion.

How is a bar formed?

In the same way as a spit is formed, except it covers the bay and causes a lake or lagoon to be left behind, which eventually dries up and this area becomes a salt marsh.

How are Wave-cut notch formed?

Due to hydraulic power, solution and other forms of erosion.

5 different forms of erosion?

*Hydraulic Power

*Corrsasion

*Abrasion

*Solution

*Attrition

What is attrition?

When rocks and pebbles knock against each other and causes them to become smoother.

What is corrasion?

When rocks and pebbles are hurled at the cliff wall which causes the cliff wall to be eroded.

What is abraision?

Pebbles are carried by waves and hit against the cliff wall.
